About

“Resentment is like drinking poison and hoping it will kill your enemies’ – Nelson Mandela

Enmity and resentment themselves are an enemy. They are a poison that does harm everyone.
And it is everyone’s task to stop it. It feeds division and resentment, so we Fast for Forgiveness.

Mission

Forgive England aims to nurture unity and heal persisting feelings of disempowerment or anger carried forward from past colonial injustices. We promote forgiveness. We truly believe forgiveness empowers and frees. We are forgiveness. Are You?

Forgiveness

The year of 2016 was declared the year of Mercy and Forgiveness by Pope Francis, and all religions and communities around the world advocate forgiveness in some form. Many contemporary debates on the subject of forgiveness have aired questions over what forgiveness is?; what is forgivable?; what is repentance?; how do forgiveness and justice relate? The Gospel tells us to ‘Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you’. Jains tell us to be forgiving of all living beings, and to let peace and harmony reign.
There is much on the theory of forgiveness but how about the practice? Forgiveness and forgiving are not merely words and an acknowledgement, they are actions and responsibility. Through forgiveness we can all work towards breaking down the barriers to achieving a kinder and better future.50 000 pilgrims attended the mass that preceded the ceremony for the official inauguration of the “Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy”. 1 Pilgrim took to the front of Old Parliament House and the Aboriginal Tent Embassy in an unofficial Forgive England fast.

Forgive

- It is one thing to say sorry, and acknowledge wrong, a fast is ‘doing’ sorry –
- While sorry is asking forgiveness, forgiveness isn’t asking sorry –
- For 70 000 years, the Aboriginal people of this land lived side by side on a forgiving and charitable spirit -
